Joe Haden came to the Pittsburgh Steelers with little hoopla. The former Cleveland Browns cornerback was mostly an afterthought at that point, but things have managed to turn around quickly, as he's becoming an important member of the Steelers team.

Not only as a player. Joe Haden's importance to the Steelers has as much to do with what he does off the field, in terms of helping players figure some things out, as on it.

Still, he admits the move to another franchise was tough.

“The biggest, the toughest part for me is the relationships I had in Cleveland,” said Joe Haden to the Post-Gazette. “The love from the city I was able to get from doing a whole bunch of charitable work and all the friends I had from being out in the community, losing that was tough, but I was used to it because there was so much turnaround as far as players. Only me and Joe Thomas were there the whole time. I’d seen all my guys go.”

That's the sour. As for the sweet, Haden has been able to adjust into a leadership position, quickly, with his new home.

“In Cleveland I was way into a leadership role, so coming here I wanted to get with the experienced guys, Mike Mitchell and Will Gay — and even Sean Davis and Artie Burns, they’re young but they’ve played a whole lot — I was more into just trying to understand the flow. Now after six weeks I’m able to have more of an input on how I see things and how I think it will be able to help our defense. Me and Mitch, me and Artie, we talk football all the time and we see football the same way, so I’ve been able to bring in some things I’ve done for them and they’re like, ‘You know what Joe? Like boom! We can use some of that stuff.’

It is some really nice insight from the veteran corner. While many might currently avoid thinking of him as a player of consequence in the NFL, he is still contributing both on the field and off it. Good for him.
