The Pittsburgh Steelers missed a big opportunity in Week 15 with Ben Roethlisberger and company falling to Tom Brady's New England Patriots. The Steelers were on the cusp of getting the win until things went a bit haywire in the final moments tilting the scales for the defending Super Bowl champions.

With Roethlisberger still processing the loss and all that happened during the game, the veteran quarterback vented a bit this week about the officiating in the NFL. Roethlisberger appears to believe there need to be a lot less yellow flags seen on the field, via ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

“I think officials are calling a lot, maybe too much. I think officials are taking the game away some times,” Roethlisberger said. “I think that they’re affecting the outcome, and I'm not trying to criticize officiating because I don't want to get fined or anything like that. I've heard it from many people. You watch a game and it's like almost every snap there seems to be a penalty and whether it's warranted or unwarranted, it just seems like there's a lot of penalties being called nowadays.”

Complaining about the officials and officiating is common practice among professional athletes. Officials or referees in any sport won't satisfy everyone and Roethlisberger is coming off quite a costly loss for the Steelers which could impact their hopes for being successful in the playoffs this year, so it comes as no surprise he'd be a little upset or frustrated.

With the loss to the Patriots aside, the Steelers will have to now focus on this week's matchup against the Houston Texans while hoping they can get a first-round bye in the playoffs. Pittsburgh is still in contention for the coveted bye but will need some help in order to make it happen with the Patriots and Jacksonville Jaguars still in the running as well.
