Golden Tate ended up signing with the New York Giants in free agency, but they aren't the only team he was considering.
Tate, who grew up in Tennessee, says that he also would have played for the Titans:
“I was definitely to coming back home and playing in front of the home crowd and doing great things in the community,” Tate said, according to Tom Kreager of The Nashville Tennesseean. “I definitely would have done it. It just didn't happen that way. That's always kind of been a dream to play for the home team. That would be fun. We'll see what happens after the four-year contract that I have.”
Tate was born in Hendersonville, Tn., and as a kid, sports were his escape:
“Sports has always been my place of comfort,” Tate said. “It's where I get away from whatever is going on at school or at home or in the neighborhood. It was a stress reliever for me. I was always pretty good at most sports. You tend to gravitate to things you are good at. I wasn't going to be the guy hanging out at the movies, or hanging out with my buddies unless it was on the football field, or on the gym or on the baseball field. I didn't mind it. That's where I liked it.”
Well, now, sports are no longer just a stress reliever for Tate, as he has made a career out of it.
The 30-year-old split the 2018 campaign between the Detroit Lions and Philadelphia Eagles, playing in 15 games and hauling in 74 receptions for 795 yard and four touchdowns.
Tate spent the first four years of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, winning a Super Bowl during his final year with the club during the 2013-14 season. He then made the Pro Bowl in his first year with the Lions in 2014.
