The Tennessee Titans have only reached the playoffs once in the last three seasons despite posting three consecutive 9-7 regular seasons. With a young core currently leading the way in Tennessee, Titans wide receiver Corey Davis is now gearing up for his third season as a member of the AFC South franchise while it is no secret that the former Western Michigan standout could use a breakout season in 2019 — both for his playing career going forward and for his team's playoff hopes.
After increasing his production in each of his first two NFL seasons in 2017 and 2018, Davis must become a true No. 1 receiver if the up-and-coming Titans are going to solidify themselves in the incredibly competitive AFC South division, a group that also contains the Indianapolis Colts, Houston Texans, and Jacksonville Jaguars. It is worth noting that all four of these teams have reached the postseason as a result of the last two campaigns with the Titans and Jaguars doing so two years ago and the Colts and Texans doing so in 2018-19.
The 24-year-old Davis was originally selected by the Titans with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft out of Western Michigan. With the Titans owning two first round picks that year, it was assumed that Tennessee would spend the second of those two picks on a wide out with the franchise unexpectedly snagging Davis in the top five, clearly putting some serious belief behind the young pass catcher.
During his rookie season, Davis appeared in 11 regular season games for the playoff-bound Titans en route to securing 34 receptions on 65 targets for 375 receiving yards. However, he failed to score a single touchdown during that stretch, though he did find the end zone twice come postseason time against the heralded New England Patriots.

Although Davis and the Titans failed to reach the postseason in his second go-round atop the highest level, the up-and-comer did up the ante on an individual basis in 2018.
Over the course of 14 regular season games, Davis emerged as the Titans top target by hauling in 65 receptions on 112 targets for 891 receiving yards and four touchdowns. While averaging nearly 14 yards per catch as opposed to a mark of 11 during his rookie season, Davis' most memorable moment from 2018-19 came at home against the defending Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles as he infamously caught a game-winning touchdown pass from quarterback Marcus Mariota late in overtime.
In addition to the fact that Davis needs to increase his production once again in order to solidify his status as a true No. 1, the Titans have put the pressure on the soon-to-be third-year receiver as Tennessee selected former Ole Miss wide out A.J. Brown in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft. With Brown now officially on board in Tennessee, perhaps a little competition among teammates will light a fire under Davis heading into the 2019-20 campaign.
