The Julio Jones era with the Tennessee Titans lasted one season, as team general manager Jon Robinson opted to release the veteran wideout earlier this month.

The Titans designated Jones as a post-June 1 release, which meant that they saved $9.5 million in cap space for the 2022 campaign. The reigning AFC South champions acquired the wide receiver from the Atlanta Falcons last year for a pair of draft picks, and he was previously signed through the 2024 season.

In speaking at the NFL owners meeting in Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday, Robinson touched on the decision to part ways with Jones after just one season, where he noted that the seven-time Pro Bowler simply was not available as much as the team would have liked to have seen him be.

“It certainly was not a lack of effort on his part,” Robinson said. “He tried his best to get out there, but he was battling it all year long. At the end of the day, and it's on our wall in the training room: ‘Availability is just as important as ability.' And, unfortunately for him – no fault of anybody – he just wasn't available for us as much as he would have liked to have been, and certainly as we would have liked to have been.

“He was a great teammate, he worked hard, he is a pro. He handles his business. I can't say enough good things about him and how he worked in his time with us.”

A nagging hamstring injury marred Jones’ 2021 campaign, as he wound up playing in 10 games over the regular season. He posted career lows across the board in what turned out to be his lone year in Tennessee, including in receiving yards (434) and receptions (31). More so, he logged a mere one receiving touchdown in the season, as he did not emerge as a go-to option for quarterback Ryan Tannehill in the red zone over the course of the campaign.

The wait continues over just where Jones will end up signing in free agency. Overall, he sure has plenty left in the tank at this point in his career.
