Malcolm Butler being benched by the New England Patriots in last year's Super Bowl was one of the most head-scratching moves of the season. There have been rumors about why he was benched, but to this day the exact reason still seems to be a mystery. Bill Belichick was asked about Butler on Wednesday, and he had no interest in talking about his former player.
Butler, who is now on the Tennessee Titans had no issues talking about the benching and admits it gives him a little extra fuel.
“I’m very fueled, and I’ve always been this way, but I’ve a little extra gas in the tank,” said Butler via Titans Insider.
Butler is one of the best secondary players in the NFL, and adding a little fuel to his fire probably isn't good for the rest of the league
Article Continues BelowTitans coach Mike Vabrel spent time with Butler with the Patriots and really loves the competitiveness he and his teammates bring to the team.
“I think that’s camp and daily life. We want a bunch of guys that are competitive. If you go out there and play pick-up basketball, or if they play dominoes or we played poker, or we played whatever it is, I want guys doing that, Vrabel said. “That’s the type of guy you want to build a roster around. Competitive guys, not just in a football drill, but in life. Those are usually the people that are successful and are winners.”
How the new changes will work on the field remains to be seen. Inside the building, there is a lot of optimism about what this season can be.
