The Tennessee Titans are making a move to create some badly needed space in their cap room, though this maneuver might not be one that running back Derrick Henry and quarterback Ryan Tannehill would have liked to see.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Titans are cutting guard Rodger Safford, who was one of the most effective players on the Tennessee's offensive line in 2021, especially in run-blocking.

This would have been the fourth year of a four-year, $44 million deal that had a $1 million roster bonus due next week. One more free-agent guard.
By parting ways with Safford, the Titans are creating $10.5 million in cap space. Despite Safford making an appearance in the Pro Bowl, Tennessee simply decided that there's more to gain in cutting the veteran. Saffold is 33 and only had a pedestrian 69.2 PFF grade in 2021. That said, he had a 73.9 run-blocking grade.
The Titans perhaps thought they could do better in pass protection with another player filling in the role of Saffold. Plus, the cap space that they are going to make with this move must be so tempting for the Titans. Last season, Tennessee ranked just 25th in the NFL in offensive quarterback sack rate (7.91%).
