The Tennessee Titans have been discussed as a team that could pursue Tom Brady in free agency. However, it appears that the Titans could be using those rumors as a smokescreen for what they truly want. With free agency rapidly approaching, Tennessee is using the interest for Brady as leverage to bring back Ryan Tannehill.
According to Greg Bedard of the Boston Sport's Journal, the Titans are keen on re-signing Tannehill this offseason. But in an attempt to lower the asking price for Tannehill, Tennessee is keeping the rumors surrounding Brady alive. At the same time, re-signing Tannehill is reportedly Tennessee's primary objective this offseason.
In recent weeks, the Las Vegas Raiders, Los Angeles Chargers, the Indianapolis Colts, and the Titans have been listed as teams that could sign Brady. Despite being a decent fit, the Colts have reportedly removed themselves from the Brady sweepstakes.
On the other hand, Bedard doesn't see the Raiders being a team that could convince Brady to leave the New England Patriots. As for the Chargers, they could choose to go in a different direction instead of paying the 42-year-old quarterback.

Above all, the seven-year pro led the Titans to the playoffs after a slow start from Marcus Mariota. Following the most efficient year of his career, it would be a questionable move to replace him with Brady.
Even though it's a cheap move, it makes sense for Tennessee to try decreasing Tannehill's value. Especially since the team also has to come up with a plan for Derrick Henry in free agency.
