The Tennessee Titans came into Saturday's game against the Washington Redskins with their playoff lives on the line. Quarterback Marcus Mariota knows this more than anyone, and he showed that on a key third down early on in the contest:
Mariota is known for his ability to move around and make things happen with his legs, and he certainly demonstrated his athleticism on that first-down scamper.
It has actually been a pretty disappointing year for Mariota overall. This season, he has thrown for just 2,418 yards, 11 touchdowns, and eight interceptions while completing 68.6 percent of his passes and registering a passer rating of 91.9.
Mariota, who played his collegiate football at the University of Oregon, was originally selected by the Titans with the second overall pick of the 2015 NFL Draft.
His career got off to a solid start, as he finished with 2,818 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 10 picks while completing 62.2 percent of his passes and posting a passer rating of 91.5 in 12 games during his rookie campaign.
The following year, Mariota was very impressive, throwing for 3,426 yards, 26 touchdowns, and nine interceptions, recording a completion percentage of 62.2 percent and a passer rating of 95.6.
However, in 2017, the 25-year-old took a step backward, battling injuries and inconsistent and ending up with just 3,232 yards, 13 touchdowns, and 15 picks.
Right now, though, none of that matters, as Tennessee simply needs to worry about winning games.
The Titans went into Saturday's action with a record of 8-6. The Baltimore Ravens hold the second AFC Wild Card spot with the same record by way of tiebreakers.
