The Washington Commanders made a run at former Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson before he was ultimately traded to the Denver Broncos, presenting Seattle with a massive offer. However, the Seahawks declined to trade the star signal-caller within the conference. The Commanders then pivoted quickly, agreeing to a trade with the Indianapolis Colts for quarterback Carson Wentz. However, the Commanders were reportedly considering these three quarterbacks as options before ultimately dealing for Wentz, as reported by NBC Sports.

After canvassing the NFL in an attempt to acquire their next franchise quarterback, the Commanders narrowed their options down to Rodgers, Wilson, Wentz, Deshaun Watson, Jimmy Garoppolo and free agent Mitchell Trubisky according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

ESPN's Jeremy Fowler reports that the Commanders narrowed things down to Aaron Rodgers, who stayed with the Green Bay Packers, Wilson, who went to Denver, Wentz, Houston Texans star Deshaun Watson, San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and free agent Mitchell Trubisky.

Basically, the options besides a Wentz trade were limited to Watson, Garoppolo and Trubisky. Watson, the star of the bunch, is also accompanied by some serious legal issues that don't appear to be going away.

Garoppolo is coming off of shoulder surgery and a season of speculation about the 49ers benching him for Trey Lance. Trubisky sat for an entire year on the bench behind Josh Allen with the Buffalo Bills.

The Commanders certainly made a safe choice by opting for Wentz, though they're going to look pretty foolish for paying a steep price to get Wentz if either Watson or Garoppolo end up in ideal landing spots.
