Ron Rivera witnessed his defense stymy the Philadelphia Eagles and Carson Wentz en route to his first win with the Washington Football Team. Following Washington's comeback win over the Eagles, Rivera realizes his defense is going to face a stiffer challenge against Kyler Murray in Week 2.
“You guys saw it Sunday,” Rivera said, via Bob McManaman of AZCentral.com. “Shoot, he’s a dynamic player, he really is. He’s got terrific athleticism, gets outside the pocket and extends plays. He’s got great vision and anticipation and he delivers a great football. He gives me anxiety.”
In just his second season in the NFL, Murray has become one of the best mobile quarterbacks in the NFL. While leading the Arizona Cardinals to a victory over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 1, Murray threw for 230 yards and a touchdown.
He also tacked on 91 yards and another touchdown on the ground. Murray's ability to escape pressure and create plays with his legs — or arm — when he's outside of the pocket separates him from other quarterbacks.
This past week, Washington's defense was dominant, sacking Wentz eight times and forcing two fumbles on the former first-round pick. As good as Washington was in Week 1, they'll need to play at a similar level if they want to slow down Murray.
Without a doubt, Rivera has the utmost confidence in his defensive front that is littered with talent from top to bottom. Still, the veteran head coach knows that Kyler Murray is more than capable of making something out of nothing throughout the course of a game. As a result, Rivera may express an array of emotions during Sunday's game versus the Cardinals.
