VIDEO: Washington’s Alex Smith throws first TD since injury on 68-yard strike to Terry McLaurin vs Giants

Washington Football Team quarterback Alex Smith uncorked a 68-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Terry McLaurin Sunday afternoon, giving not only the veteran signal-caller his first score since his return from a life-threatening injury, along with giving the 2-5 Football Team a smaller margin against the New York Giants.

Operating behind a suspect offensive line, Smith took the ball on a designed play action to running back J.D. McKissic, who switched to a blocking role following the fake, buying just enough time for the former number-one overall pick to launch a missile to McLaurin. Perhaps more impressive however, was the Washington receiver's gain after the catch, breaking the tackle of the Giants cornerback, and finding a way out of the reach of all three New York defenders.

While Smith's touchdown pass was his first since 2018—a span of 728 days—it came following another gruesome leg injury to a Washington Football Team quarterback, in the form of Kyle Allen's dislocated ankle.

The Washington Football Team has been cycling through several quarterbacks this season after benching last year's first-round pick Dwayne Haskins along with Allen's injury and Smith's return.

Washington and New York are engaged in a close game in the second half.
