The NHL is reportedly rescinding its ban on Pride Tape for NHL players after receiving a lot of backlash for the move ahead of the 2023-2024 season, according to Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic.

Over the last few years, the NHL has received a lot of attention when teams have hosted Pride Nights, and that is because of certain players declining to wear jerseys with rainbows on them, or rainbow stick tape. Those players have been criticized in the past, and as a result of that, the NHL and commissioner Gary Bettman announced that they would be banning the use of those jerseys and tape for this season. Pride Nights were still scheduled to go on, but the jerseys and tape were not allowed.

Now, the NHL is allowing players to use the tape again, which is a move that should make most happy. Players who refuse to wear those jerseys or use the tape will still garner attention.

The move was reportedly agreed on by the NHL, NHL Players Association and the NHL Player Inclusion Coalition. It is an agreement that allows players to have the option to represent social causes with stick tape throughout the season, and it includes games and practices, according to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet.

Many will be happy to hear that Gary Bettman and the league are making this move, while others will be disappointed that it is even needed. Regardless, players will be able to support social causes that they choose throughout the season.
