The Winnipeg Jets will play host to the Philadelphia Flyers tonight. The Flyers have been well out of a playoff position for months now while the Jets were pushing for a wild card spot but ultimately fell short enough to fall back behind. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Flyers-Jets prediction and pick.

Why The Flyers Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Philadelphia Flyers have gone 3-7-0 in their last 10 games, running a very young roster due to injuries. With a bunch of rookies on the active roster, anything is possible, but don’t get your hopes up just yet. The Flyers are dead last in the Metropolitan Division and will definitely be looking for a lottery pick come draft day. There’s not really much else to say about the Flyers, honestly. This is their second to last game of a season where they wish it would have already ended. Starting in net for the Flyers tonight is most likely going to be Martin Jones, who has a save percentage of .900 and allows 3.43 goals against per game. He’ll try to finish the season on a high note.

Why The Jets Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Winnipeg Jets head back to the drawing board this season after making four straight playoff appearances. The Jets even pulled off a coaching change in December, but it didn’t seem to do much overall for the team. They were in the running for a playoff spot a few weeks ago, but after going 3-6-1 in their last 10 games, it’s safe to kiss those aspirations goodbye. They’ll be looking on to the next season as they’ll try and finish it out on a high note. Star goaltender Connor Hellebuyck will likely get the start tonight, once again, as he’s been leaned on all season long. Unfortunately, he’s set to finish with a goals-against-average above 3.00 for the first time in his career. It’s not entirely his fault as the Jets’ defense hasn’t been up to par this season, but it’s definitely way too high of an average for one of the better goaltenders in the league.

Final Flyers-Jets Prediction & Pick

Let’s be honest, unless you are a diehard fan of either of these teams, you’re probably not watching this game. Both of these teams have zero playoff aspirations for the rest of the year and don’t really care anymore. Of course, there are probably some contract incentives that some players want to hit, but besides that, whoever wins or loses doesn’t really matter in the long run. With that, I’m going to pick to win this game. Fading the Flyers has worked all season long, so why stop now? In fact, for better value, I’m going to take the Jets to win in regulation, also known as the 3Way Moneyline.
