The Colorado Avalanche will host game two of the second round against the St. Louis Blues after the Avs won game one in overtime. The Blues were very close to winning game one a few times, but couldn't bury the biscuit when they needed it the most. The Avs are an elite team and proved it once again after the game one win. Why The Blues Can Cover The Spread/Win

The St. Louis Blues are looking to bounce back after a tough overtime loss in game one. Keeping them in that game was goaltender Jordan Binnington, who stopped 51 shots out of 54 attempts for a .944 save percentage. He made some huge saves to give his team a chance at coming back, but the team in front of him just couldn't find a way to score more goals, despite taking the game to overtime. Throughout the entire game, the Blues only managed to get 25 shots on goal, which isn't nearly enough to win hockey games. In fact, their only two goals were generated off turnovers and bad line changes by the Avs. To their credit, they're used to making those shot numbers count as they are more of a quality over quantity type of team.

Why The Avalanche Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Colorado Avalanche look to extend their series lead to 2-0 before heading into St. Louis for games three and four. Their offense was back at it in game one even though their top line didn't produce any goals, proving that the Avs are incredibly deep when it comes to talent. They put 54 shots on goal through overtime, but it was more of their defense that shined through, only allowing 25 shots against. The Avs have a fantastic defense and it's tough to even just get into their zone, let alone score on a star goaltender in Darcy Kuemper, who is showing a .930 save percentage through the playoffs so far. As long as the Avs keep up the pressure and score early on, the Blues will get nervous and start to make those mistakes that the Avs are looking to capitalize on.

Final Blues-Avalanche Prediction & Pick

This is a really tough game to pick because of course there's no way you'd want to bet against the Avs right now, but the odds for them to do anything except cover the puck line are insane. The issue I have is that the over/under total is much higher than we'd like to see as well. It was set at 6.5 for game one and even though the total was 3-2, the line has now moved up to 7, which doesn't make a ton of sense. To counter that, oddsmakers bumped up the odds on that as well making it not worth the take either.

With that said, in the FanDuel Sportsbook, if you find the Alternative Total Goals 1 option, you can take under 6.5 goals for much better value (even then, I don't know if I'd be that confident with the under in a game where both teams can get hot out of nowhere).

Honestly, I don't like this board at all. I'm going to take the under 6.5 just for value purposes, but honestly, I think it could go either way with the Avs winning in this game before heading east to St. Louis for games three and four where hopefully the odds will change a bit in our favor.

Final Blues-Avalanche Prediction and Pick: Alternative Under 6.5 (+116)
