The Denver Nuggets and the Utah Jazz are interested in getting a deal done before the trade deadline. If things fall right into place, the Nuggets will be sending Wilson Chandler to the Jazz for Joe Johnson.

The report comes from Michael Scotto of The Athletic, who says that Chandler and Johnson may be heading to different addresses as a deal is currently being discussed.

Denver is interested in Johnson’s expiring contract and he’s a veteran who can teach the young Nuggets team a thing or two about playoff basketball. Despite averaging only 7.3 points per game this season, Johnson is a valuable asset to any team that’s looking for a player who can close out a game. He is known around the league for making clutch shots throughout his career.

Denver is in sixth place in the Western Conference and only one and a half games behind the Oklahoma City Thunder for the fifth spot.

Third-year forward/center Nikola Jokic has become the team’s Most Valuable Player and he is looking forward to his first playoff appearance. He is averaging 16.5 points, 10.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, and 1.2 steals a game.

Chandler has been struggling this season and doesn’t appear to be a key cog in the Nuggets offense any longer.

However, a follow-up report says that the discussions between the Jazz and Nuggets may not be getting anywhere.

Regardless of what happens between the two teams, the Nuggets will be exploring trades that will help them in their playoff run without sacrificing their financial flexibility in the summer.
