The NBA MVP debate is getting a tad bit tiring at this point, no? The talks about who deserves the MVP more gets way too vitriolic nowadays. Today, the debate is largely centered around which All-Star center deserves to win: Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic or Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid. Amid the discussions, a former teammate of Jokic talked about why Embiid deserves to win: Demarcus Cousins.

One of Cousins' final stints in the NBA was a season with the Nuggets as the backup to Nikola Jokic. Given that, you'd think that the former All-Star would favor Big Honey. However, Cousins' argument is that the defense of Embiid counteracts the brilliance of Jokic's offensive mastery.

Truth be told, you can't go wrong with either pick as the MVP for this season. All of the controversial takes aside, both Joel Embiid and Nikola Jokic have done plenty to be deserving of the MVP trophy. Jokic's efforts have the Nuggets on top of the Western Conference, while Embiid's two-way presence helped the Sixers chase the Celtics for the second seed. Even Giannis Antetokounmpo has a good argument.

If you ask either Jokic or Embiid, though, they'd probably say that they want a championship more than the MVP. That probably is more true for the Nuggets star, who has won two such awards in his career. At this point, Jokic would much rather hold the Larry O'Brien trophy than the MVP trophy.

If the cards align right, perhaps we'll see both the Nuggets and the Sixers in the Finals. If that happens, we can settle this debate once and for all.
