The Denver Nuggets were dealt a huge blow on Tuesday afternoon after it was revealed that All-Star forward Paul Millsap needed to undergo surgery on his left wrist that will keep him out of the lineup for the next two to three months.

It has immediately shifted to the Nuggets looking internally to their other players to help fill the void left by Millsap. One of which could be third-year forward Trey Lyles, who recently voiced that he could step up in an increased role with the 32-year-old out for the next several weeks.

In his brief NBA career, Lyles has shown to be a versatile player on both ends of this floor because of his size and length. He has shown the ability to stretch the floor with his outside shooting touch hitting at a 34.6 percent clip from beyond the arc through two-plus seasons.

Granted, he is shooting a career-high 41.7 (5-of-12) in limited action, but it does show that he could potentially be an effective shooter if given the opportunity to play an increased role. He is currently averaging just 6.8 minutes per contest in 12 games played this season.

That said, the Nuggets may initially look to give Kenneth Faried some run in the starting lineup and if he can prove that he can excel in a larger role, he could be in play to become a dependable contributor on a nightly basis.
