Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid is the greatest player in the NHL, hands down. He's the reigning MVP and a future Hall of Famer. Well, he's now made a business move that no other athlete in North America has done. Not even LeBron James or Patrick Mahomes.

McDavid is the first active athlete to partner with a sportsbook as he recently became a brand ambassador for BetMGM:

This is huge for BetMGM and the Oilers phenom. They already have Wayne Gretzky on board and to add McDavid to the mix is fantastic. The NHL is actually the first league on the continent to allow a player to partner with a sportsbook, despite sports betting becoming more frequent in the NFL and NBA as well. They even have betting portals at certain venues now.

McDavid is in the midst of another fine campaign for the Oilers, leading the league with 79 points. He's scored a mind-boggling 29 goals and provided 50 assists in 54 games played for Edmonton, who have really turned it on recently after firing their head coach Dave Tippett. They've won seven of their last 11 games, with McDavid continuing to produce.

It will be very interesting to see if other leagues in North America allow their athletes to reap the rewards from partnerships with sportsbooks in the near future after Connor McDavid just broke the barrier.
