The Minnesota Timberwolves have multiple moves to make before the franchise can be considered even a playoff contender. The organization is currently building around Karl-Anthony Towns and D'Angelo Russell. New Timberwolves president of basketball operations Gersson Rosas made the big move to acquire Russell from the Golden State Warriors, giving Towns the All-Star point guard he needs to compete in the West.

Moving forward, Rosas and his team of associates need to acquire more shooters and stout defenders around Towns and Russell. The Timberwolves' core appears to be KAT, D'Lo, Malik Beasley, Jarrett Culver and Josh Okogie. Minnesota has to re-sign Beasley this summer in restricted free agency. He averaged 20.7 points in 14 games with Minnesota after his trade from the Denver Nuggets.

Besides re-signing Beasley, the Timberwolves should also consider trading for Los Angeles Clippers power forward JaMychal Green. He's the ideal big man to pair with Towns in the frontcourt due to his rebounding and shooting skills.

In 55 games for the Clippers this season before games were suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Green averaged 6.5 points and 6.3 rebounds in 20.5 minutes per night. The Alabama native shot 41.4 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from beyond the arc and 72.7 percent from the free throw line.

The Timberwolves need a stretch-four such as Green next to Towns so that KAT has ample room to work with in the post. Green's ability to shoot 3s will bring his defender out to the perimeter, thus creating more space for Towns to have down low.

Moreover, Russell and Green can feast in pick-and-pop situations since opposing defenders will have to decide if they want to go to the perimeter and contest Green's shot from beyond the arc, or limit Russell's penetration to the basket.

Green has career NBA averages of 8.1 points and 6.2 rebounds in 354 games with the San Antonio Spurs, Memphis Grizzlies and Clippers. He has a $5 million player option for next season.

The Timberwolves can sign Green in free agency if the 29-year-old declines that option with Los Angeles.
