When someone of Will Smith's reputation does something out of this world like slapping Chris Rock on live television, it's sure to go viral on social media. Even a simple video of Denzel Washington calming the actor down while the show was on commercial has also made the rounds just recently. But after receiving the Best Actor award for King Richard, Smith said something that will surely catch everyone's attention.
Just as Smith was making a speech for winning the said award, the actor said, with tears visible in his eyes, that love will make you do crazy things. The first-time Oscar winner said this in relation to an incident that occurred earlier during the awards.
Before Rock stated the nominees for the Best Documentary award, the comedian took a stab at Jada Pinkett-Smith's bald hairstyle by saying he was excited for G.I. Jane 2. The said movie had Demi Moore play a female soldier with hair shaved off. Pinkett-Smith was visibly irked due to her current fight against alopecia, or hair loss.
Smith, who was seen laughing moments before, walked up towards Rock and slapped him while the Oscars was ongoing. Smith went back down to his seat while the host was saying that it was just a G.I. Jane joke. The actor then angrily replied to keep his wife's name out of his mouth.
As the night progressed, Smith was then announced to have won the Best Actor award for his role in King Richard, a movie about Venus and Serena Williams' early years with their father. This is the point of the night when Smith said his seven-word message about love in relation to the earlier incident involving Rock.
While the actor did get emotional about his wife's condition, it must be remembered that it's still not a very good reason to just go around and slap anybody. It remains to be seen what more Smith can say after this public debacle with Rock.
