Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski and Chiefs' Andy Reid had different arguments with regards to the altercation that happened in Week 1. Controversy struck in the opening quarter of their game on Sunday when Kansas City coach Greg Lewis got into it with Browns safety Ronnie Harrison Jr which eventually had the 24-year-old ejected from the game.
Here's a closer look at the incident via Colin Dunlap of the Fan Morning Show:
Ronnie Harrison ain’t right.
But KC coach Greg Lewis ain’t right either for putting his hands on that man.
Lewis, as a staff member and someone in authority who isn’t a player, should actually be punished more in the long run than Harrison.— Colin Dunlap (@colin_dunlap) September 12, 2021
Lewis was seen shoving Harrison after the safety seemed to have stepped on Chiefs' Clyde Edwards-Helaire after a tackle to which Harrison responded with a push which ultimately caught the RB coach in the face. Initially, Lewis was supposed to have been the one getting the early exit but after review, the call was reversed and it was Harrison who got the shorter end of the stick.
According to Reid, Lewis was simply trying to get Harrison off Edwards-Helaire – plain and simple.

But he was there to get that fellow who was leaning on our guy. That’s why there was a penalty, right? So the officials fixed it, which I thought was important,” Reid told Yahoo Sports (h/t to Fox News) after the game. “You don’t do that to our guys – bottom line.”
Stefanski on the other hand had a different interpretation. Though the Browns head coach 100% agrees that Harrison shove wasn't the best decision, he's standing by his guy
“I do think that any contact that came from Ronnie was incidental,’’ Stefanski said, via Cleveland.com. “If you watch the tape, it’s pretty obvious that he’s getting collisioned (sic) as he’s trying to get off of their boundary, but that doesn’t excuse him from retaliating. You can’t do that. That’s something we all know, that the game officials will see the second guy not the first guy.’’
The 39-year-old head coach didn't mention if he thinks Lewis needed to be sanctioned as well and that further disciplinary measures towards Harrison will be kept in-house.
