Indiana Pacers guard Edmond Sumner, who's coming off an injury, recently discussed his rehab process as well as his goals for the 2019-2020 season. For the 23-year-old, he's ready to compete and make himself known.

Per Scott Agness of The Athletic, Sumner briefly spoke about the injury he sustained on his left foot:

“I was working out and I couldn’t even really push off of it so I knew something was up,” Sumner shared. “It was something freakish almost. It wasn’t anything so serious where I need surgery, but it was something serious enough where it was bothering me. They couldn’t really diagnose how I did it; I could have done it a number of different ways.

Sumner was the 57th pick by the Pacers back in 2017. But in his rookie campaign, he played just one game and had to sit out due to his injury. He also spent some time in the G League to further hone his skills. Come his second season, the Xavier product was able to lace up for 23 games. He made the most out of his limited exposure that the Pacers offered him a two-year deal. Now, he's taking it step-by-step:

“That’s something I’m going to continue to keep working for,” he said confidently. “Don’t get too high or too low. If it doesn’t go the way I want it to go — it’s a long season, anyway — I just have to be ready. I definitely want to take that leap until it’s not a question that I’m a rotational player.”

We have heard many stories of NBA players being plagued by injuries earlier in their careers. Some of them have struggled. While some may come back stronger than ever. Here's to hoping that Sumner remains healthy as he continues his basketball journey.
