The Green Bay Packers fired longtime associate head coach Winston Moss on Tuesday following a critical tweet he sent out. In that tweet, Moss not only criticized the Packers’ decision to fire Mike McCarthy but also called for Aaron Rodgers to be held accountable for his subpar play this season.

Rodgers finally responded to that pointed comment by his former coach on Wednesday, claiming he’s always held himself accountable and that there was no lack of accountability under McCarthy.

“There's nobody that holds me more accountable than myself,” Rodgers said per Rob Demovsky of ESPN. “I mean, I'm always checking myself on my preparation habits and my practice habits and my mindset, but there's always been a great deal of accountability under Mike's program for the last 13 years.

“There's consequences for actions that are outside of what's in the best interest of the team, and there's never been — I used to always tell him, I said, ‘Hey, if you need to call on somebody in the meeting to let everybody know we're all on equal playing field, call on me first. Call me out.' Just so everybody knows nobody is off limits, we're holding everybody to the same standard. And I feel that's the way it always was.”

Rodgers has been far from his scintillating best this season. The two-time NFL MVP is completing 62 percent of his passes for 3,504 yards and 21 touchdowns against just one interception, although he has thrown away a large number of passes. His current QBR of 54 would be by far the worst of his career.

Some have put the blame for Rodgers’ struggles on McCarthy. The Packers QB was not pleased with the way McCarthy was running the offense, which likely factored significantly into the head coach’s firing.

Everyone will have to wait until next season to know if Rodgers’ struggles were really due to McCarthy’s playcalling. But if he does continue his subpar play, there will likely be a lot more people who will call Rodgers out as Moss did.
