Aaron Rodgers dragged his decision out right up until Tuesday's franchise tag deadline, but he has ultimately decided to return to the Green Bay Packers on a historic new contract. Pat McAfee first broke the news that Rodgers would be returning to the Packers, and then NFL Media's Ian Rapoport dropped the bombshell on the new contract, which is a four-year deal worth $200 million overall and $153 million guaranteed.

Rodgers is now the highest-paid player in NFL history:

Last offseason, it seemed as if Rodgers and the Packers were headed for a divorce. However, the legendary quarterback patched things up with the franchise over the last year, which featured another MVP. Green Bay suffered a shocking loss at Lambeau Field to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round after a magical regular season, but the franchise was still willing to go all in on the 38-year-old, with Rodgers ultimately deciding staying put was the right move. It makes sense given Rodgers and the Packers have mostly owned the NFC North over the years.

Former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett's Denver Broncos were rumored to be the top contender for Rodgers' services if he decided to go elsewhere, so now they and other suitors will have to turn their attention to other options. This contract makes it seem like Rodgers will wind up playing his entire career in Green Bay, though things could certainly change in the future if things go south.

With Rodgers now back in the fold, the Packers are set to slap the franchise tag on superstar wide receiver Davante Adams, keeping this duo together for at least another year. The way Rodgers' new contract is structured helps make room for this move. Adams caught a career-high 123 passes for 1,553 yards and 11 scores last season, with Rodgers tossing 37 total touchdowns and throwing for 4,115 yards.

We'll now also have to see what happens with young quarterback Jordan Love and if Green Bay decides to trade him now that Rodgers has made this major commitment to the franchise.
