The Green Bay Packers have had no shortage of controversy this offseason, with Aaron Rodgers dominating headlines left and right. Another member of their roster, wide receiver Devin Funchess, was embroiled in his own issue as he had used a racial slur during a press conference.

The Packers wideout was playfully describing what he saw from a someone present at the press conference, claiming that their eyes were “chi–y”.

Funchess was quick to voice out his remorse over the incident on Twitter. The Packers veteran took full responsibility and claimed that he meant no harm.

“I want to apologize for the disparaging remark I used tonight. It was not OK,” said Packers' Funchess.

“I have grown to develop deep personal and business relationships in the Asian community! I meant no harm, and those that know me know I have love and respect for all cultures and people. I will learn from this and continue to grow as a person. I’m forever sorry!”

Judging by the incident in question, Devin Funchess seemed innocently unaware at first that he used a derogatory term. Some of these words and expressions have grown ingrained into common vocabulary and it takes peaceful call outs like these to make progress in erasing them entirely. Kudos to the Packers WR for allowing this to be a growing experience.
