The Green Bay Packers are always looking to improve their roster and such was the case once again following their first preseason game. After waiving wide receiver Jawill Davis, the team made a roster move to replace his spot on the team.

According to a report from the Packers on their official Twitter account, the team has claimed cornerback Derrick Jones off of waivers from the New York Jets.

Many thought Green Bay would add another linebacker after Oren Burks went down with a torn pectoral muscle. The Packers instead decided to add another cornerback with Kevin King still out due to injury.

Jones played just one game with the Jets last season as a rookie. He ended up recording three tackles in the one appearance he made. Green Bay may not keep him around on the active roster when cuts come around, but he has a chance to land on the practice squad.

At 6-foot-2 and 188 pounds, Jones has great size for the cornerback position. Green Bay will give him a chance to compete in training camp and preseason action, but when King returns they may make another move. The team still needs to add depth at linebacker, which could end up meaning cutting either Jones or another player.

All of that being said, it will be interesting to see what ends up happening with Jones. He may not have a great chance to make the final roster, but he is a young player with a good work ethic and a lot to prove.
