The Green Bay Packers' offense suffered a huge blow when the team traded Davante Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders. The early offseason move prompted the Packers to spend the rest of the offseason looking for a suitable replacement.
Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams spent years building unmatchable on-field chemistry. That being said, it's going to take more than one receiver to compensate for Adams' departure.
Most recently, the Packers gave John Brown a chance. The veteran wide receiver tried out for the Packers, NFL insider Field Yates tweeted Wednesday.
Brown hasn't had a stable position on a team since he played for the Buffalo Bills in 2019 and 2020. The Bills released Brown after the team's deep playoff run, and he's been on four different teams in the past year.
After leaving the Bills, Brown spent the majority of the offseason with the Las Vegas Raiders. The team released him at the end of August, and he joined the Denver Broncos practice squad in October. He was released in late October, only to be signed to the practice squad of the Jacksonville Jaguars in early November.
The Jags released him at the end of November, allowing the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to sign him to its practice squad in mid-January. He was elevated to the team's active roster on January 22, only to have his contract expire when the Buccaneers' season ended the next day.
The 32-year-old has played in 100 NFL games since he joined the league in 2014. In those games, he's recorded 69 starts, 320 receptions, 4,748 yards, and 31 touchdowns. If the Packers decide to take a chance on Brown, he could have another chance to prove himself this season.
