The Green Bay Packers picked up Darnell Savage with the 21st overall pick in the 2019 draft and it appears they have themselves a shut down corner, or at least that's what he was in college.

Pro Football Focus tweeted out a stat on Monday morning that is actually hard to believe. According to PFF the last time that Savage allowed a touchdown was during the 2016 season against Boston College in the Maryland Terrapins bowl game.

Since that touchdown, Savage was targeted 94 times and didn't allow any touchdowns while knocking down 11 passes and picking off seven balls.

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com noted just how good Savage was in coverage in his scouting report although he thought he was more of a second or third-round draft pick.

“Savage will offer an interesting litmus test for how teams value instincts, IQ and coverage quickness against size. He sports a compact frame with a muscular build and was actually bigger at the combine than some scouts expected. His sticky cover skills and ability to close on throws from all areas of the field are valuable commodities that should not be undervalued. Savage should be targeted as a Day 2 hybrid defender offering early starting potential as a two-high zone or slot cover talent.”

The NFC North has a lot of talented receivers so Savage is going to be tested early.

It's probably a long shot that he won't allow any touchdowns in the league, but if he can limit them and do good in coverage, the Packers are going to be very happy with their draft pick.
