The Green Bay Packers surprisingly took Jordan Love with the No. 26 in the 2020 NFL Draft, causing many to scratch their heads on the decision. After some time has passed, an NFL executive claims that Green Bay believes Love is the next Patrick Mahomes.

Heading into the 2020 NFL Draft, it was suspected that the Packers would make it a priority to give Aaron Rodgers some help on offense. Instead, Green Bay conducted their draft as if they were planning for life after Rodgers. Above all, they selected Love, who could be the eventual replacement for Rodgers.

Throughout the pre-draft process, scouts were impressed with Love's incredible arm talent at Utah State. During his time at Utah State, the new Packers rookie showed that he excelled in situations where he could create off-script plays. Therefore, Love began to draw comparisons to Mahomes ahead of the draft.

Of course, comparing Love to arguably the best quarterback in the NFL is extremely premature. But that goes to show why the Packers believed they couldn't afford to pass on Love in the first round of the draft. Furthermore, that explains why Green Bay insisted on trading up to get him.

There's no doubt that Love is going to improve his decision-making before starting in the NFL. Luckily for him, he'll have some time to perfect his game before he is promoted to the starting lineup in Green Bay.

The Packers unquestionably took Love to have him develop under Rodgers for the next couple of years. If Love ever comes close to being the same quarterback as Mahomes, then having him sit will be well worth the wait.
