The NFL world is buzzing with speculations about the potential landing spots of star cornerback Stephon Gilmore after news broke out Wednesday morning that he and the New England Patriots are parting ways. But Greg A. Bedard of the Boston Sports Journal wants everyone to hold their horses and consider the possibility that the Patriots could opt to just trade Gilmore to, say, the Green Bay Packers, while his official release statement is pending.

Every NFL team out there should at least kick the tires on a Stephon Gilmore trade. Gilmore is certainly an asset on defense when healthy. For the Packers, the idea of getting Gilmore must be salivating. Aaron Rodgers has frequently played without an elite defense through his NFL career, and this season seems to be no different. The Packers are just 19th overall in scoring defense after four weeks of football. While the Packers are allowing just 209.5 passing yards per game, opponents are completing 67.15% of their passes against Green Bay. Per Football Outsiders, the Packers are only 23rd overall in Defense-adjusted Value Over Average (DVOA) with a 6.7% rating.

The outlook of the Packers' secondary has also taken hits of late, with Jaire Alexander sustaining a shoulder injury and Kevin King dealing with a non-COVID illness, so plugging that unit with a big name like Stephon Gilmore would be a huge boost to Green Bay's Super Bowl aspirations.
