The Carolina Panthers are still looking for their definite backup quarterback to Cam Newton. Though the team spent a third-round pick on Will Grier, he's not guaranteed to be that answer, as Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke continue to be rostered.

After Friday night's 27-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills, head coach Ron Rivera talked about their situation at the position, saying,

“You know what was dissapointing was when you really watch them [Grier, Allen, Heinicke], they made some good descisions, [they] just delivered some high balls. They didn't give their teammates the chance to make some plays, and you're going to struggle with that,” per ESPN's David Newton.

Rivera added: “For the most part, it was really about putting the ball where it needed to be. For the most part they made good decisions. You'd like to see Will [Grier] go through his progressions a little bit quicker. For the most part he made good decisions, but he's got to get those progressions. He's got to ID coverages a little bit quicker.”

In the game, Grier threw 10-for-19 for 79 yards and no scores. He threw an interception to cornerback Kevin Johnson which ended up being a lengthy pick-six.

Heinicke threw the only passing touchdown of the night, as he went 8-for-12 for 78 yards and the score. Allen, on the other hand, went 4-for-11 for 32 yards.

Currently, the Panthers list Allen as the No. 2 guy behind Newton, with Grier and Heinicke following suit.

But, according to Rivera, anybody realistically has the opportunity to move up or down.
