Despite their recent struggles, Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey is still in the midst of a historic 2019 NFL season. It appears his greatness has finally been recognized in Madden.

McCaffrey became the youngest player to earn a 99 overall rating in Madden. He was recognized for the honor after practice heading into Week 12,

McCaffrey admits it is quite the honor as an avid gamer growing up, per Max Henson of the team's official website:

“This means a lot. It’s really cool. I played Madden my whole life,” McCaffrey said after receiving the commemorative 99 trophy following Thursday’s practice. “Getting a 99, to be in that company means a lot. It’s definitely very humbling.”

McCaffrey's comments are certainly understandable considering most players have tried to creat themselves in the game at one point. The difference is, he no longer has to go through the effort of boosting his own attributes.

There is no question that McCaffrey is more than deserving of the honor. He currently leads the league in rushing after 10 games with 1,059 yards and is on pace to break Chris Johnson's mark for total yards from scrimmage. As a result, he has become the lone running back candidate for MVP in a race that is filled with quarterbacks.

McCaffrey will be joining some rather elite company as only the sixth running back in history to receive such a rating. It will be interesting to see if his efforts down the stretch ultimately help him achieve the NFL's highest individual honor.
