The Carolina Panthers were close to performing a comeback upset over the New Orleans Saints. Tied 31-all with 1:56 left, Ron Rivera and Co. looked like they had the lead in the bag when they lined kicked Joey Slye up to boot in a 28-yard go-ahead field goal.

He missed. On the other side, the Saints marched down the field and won off the right leg of Will Lutz, who drilled a 33-yard field goal as time faded off the scoreboard.

In missing the 28-yard field goal, Slye ended a streak of 233 made kicks from that distance or less, dating back to Ryan Succopps miss in Week 9 with the Tennessee Titans. He does not feel too good about it.

“Obviously, that field goal should have put us over the top, and it didn’t,” Slye said, via ESPN.com. “The obvious statement is I feel the loss is on me. I’m going to take ownership of that… I felt very confident. Obviously, it looked very stupid when I missed.”

Slye also missed two extra points in the loss. It sent the Panthers into their third consecutive loss. The miss could also put his job in jeopardy. However, that's not what he is thinking of. Winning is on his mind, not his job.

“Honestly, I'm worried about my results on the field and where this team is going,” Slye said. “Job security is the last thing on my mind.”

Slye should have a chance to redeem himself next week, barring an unforeseen change of circumstances. The Panthers will host the Washington Redskins next week.
