It didn't take long for Stephon Gilmore to get revenge against his former team as the Carolina Panthers took on the New England Patriots in Week 9.

The five-time Pro Bowler avoided a pick to jump a slant route in the second quarter on Sunday, picking off Patriots rookie quarterback Mac Jones for his second interception in as many games with the Panthers.

Easy money.

Gilmore, who'd spent the past four seasons in New England, was traded to Carolina on October 6th in exchange for a future sixth-round draft pick. The Patriots had placed him on the injured list before the season due to a quad injury he suffered in 2020, and were reportedly ready to let Gilmore walk for nothing before finding a trade partner in the Panthers.

After notching an interception during his Carolina debut last week, one that doubled as the first time he took the field this season, Gilmore expressed misgivings about how New England handled his injury and departure.

“I just didn’t like how they handled my situation, my injury,” he said of the Patriots, per Mike Reiss of ESPN. “A lot went on with that I didn’t agree with. Now that I’m here, I’m able to do the things I have to do to get me back ready to where I need to be. I learned a lot there. I have a lot of friends there. A lot of great coaches. I just didn’t like how they handled my situation with my injury.”

Considering the immediate impact he made against his former team, New England may not much like how it handled Gilmore's situation, either.
