The New England Patriots season continues to trend downward with the latest slide coming at the hands of the New York Giants. The Patriots lost 10-7 on Sunday, losing back-to-back games in which they allowed only 10 points.

The Patriots offense has not done much of anything this season so New England has to take advantage of every opportunity they can to put points on the board. One such chance came with 35 seconds left in regulation against the Giants.

With New York holding a 10-7 lead, New England got into the red zone and took the clock down to six seconds to give kicker Chad Ryland a 35-yard field goal attempt which would send the game to overtime. Ryland pushed it wide left, marking the second consecutive week the rookie missed a field goal from short range.

Appearing on The Greg Hill Show on WEEI, Belichick was open in his criticism of Ryland.

“Chad is a very talented player but this is two weeks in a row that we basically missed extra points. It’s not good enough,” Belichick said, via Greg Hill Show.

The Patriots and Belichick chose Ryland over veteran Nick Folk during training camp, eventually trading the latter to the Tennessee Titans on Aug. 29. Folk missed one kick through 11 games, a 51-yard field goal attempt in Week 10. He is perfect on extra-point tries.

Belichick did not say whether the Pats would consider a change at kicker but it's clear he's fed up with Ryland and the offense's inability to score as a whole. Ryland will try to improve his 12-for-18 numbers (14-14 on extra points) and potentially save his job next week against the Los Angeles Chargers.
