There has been plenty of speculation regarding the uncertain future of safety Devin McCourty. It appears both sides have since managed to get a deal done.

McCourty made the announcement on Double Coverage that he would be re-signing with the Patriots:

According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, it is a two-year deal worth $23 million.

The Patriots are giving safety and team leader Devin McCourty a 2-year deal worth $23M, sources say. He gets $17M guaranteed – keeping him in New England for his career and allowing him to play with his brother again.

Re-signing McCourty is a huge boost for this Patriots' secondary. Although the offense may be a point of emphasis for them this offseason, it is clear they are not looking to experience any turnover on the defensive side of the ball.

It is safe to say that McCourty is happy to be sticking around alongside his twin brother in New England after they opted to pick up his team option for the 2020 NFL season. Although they still have plenty left in the tank, getting to compete together with a bonafide contender in the final stretch of their careers is certainly a unique opportunity.

McCourty is coming off another stellar year as a key piece of an elite Patriots defense that had been anchored by their secondary. He finished the 209 campaign with 58 tackles, five interceptions, and two forced fumbles.

Although signing McCourty is undoubtedly big news for fans, many are still holding their breath to see how the negotiations with quarterback Tom Brady pan out.
