New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is currently facing a four-game suspension for testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance. There’s still a chance that ruling could get overturned, but the fact that his name has been in any way connected with PEDs has already somewhat sullied his reputation.

Former Patriots safety Rodney Harrison knows a thing or two about dealing with the consequences of getting popped for PEDs. He offered some advice for how Edelman should handle the whole unfortunate situation.

“Ultimately, people are going to think what they want to think. If you’re a part of the Patriots, and something like this happens, people from the outside, they think you’re a cheater anyway,” said Harrison per Karen Guregian of the Boston Herald. “Ultimately, I’d tell him, ‘It doesn’t matter what other people think. You know what type of person you are. You just have to bounce back from this. You can’t allow it to affect you, you have to use your time wisely.’”

Harrison also thinks that Edelman, who claimed that he didn’t know what happened with his positive test, just made a mistake. He adds that the wideout must put the situation behind him and concentrate on continuing his rehab so that he’s as close to 100 percent as possible when he does return.

There’s certainly a lot of wisdom to Harrison’s advice. Hopefully, Edelman will take it to heart and find a way to move on in order to play a critical part in the Patriots’ upcoming season.
