Despite missing practice on Friday, New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to play on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles, according to Doug Kyed.

There was a question as to whether or not Stevenson would suit up for the season opener after Mike Reiss reported that the Patriots' lead back was absent from practice. The media is only allowed at practice for a certain amount of time though, so it's possible Stevenson could still be on the practice field later on Friday.

Stevenson was not on either of New England's first two injury reports earlier this week, so it's natural for Patriots fans to have some concern after Reiss' report. Those concerns were quickly washed away and the third-year ball carrier should be in the backfield on Sunday.

Stevenson led the Patriots in rushing yards last season and is poised to carry the load for New England's backfield once again in 2023. The addition of Ezekiel Elliott gives the Patriots a solid combination at running back, but Stevenson should still see the bulk of the work.

Stevenson averaged five yards per carry last season. He averaged 94.3 yards a game in the six games he ran the ball at least 15 times.

The Patriots will have their work cut out for them on Sunday as they host the defending NFC champion Eagles. Without Rhamondre Stevenson, it would have been even more difficult to pull off the upset. After a slight scare, it appears New England's No. 1 running back will be on the field after all.
