New Orleans Pelicans star Brandon Ingram has agreed to a five-year, $158 million maximum contract extension, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Ingram broke out this past season as a member of the Pelicans after coming over from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Anthony Davis trade. The 23-year-old made his first All-Star Game in Year 4, leading to this max deal after he passed on an extension offer following the trade.

The forward averaged a career-high 23.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.2 assists in 33.9 minutes per game in 2019-20. Brandon Ingram shot 46.3% overall, 39.1% on 3-pointers and 85.1% from the free-throw line. The 3-point shooting was especially impressive given that rate of success came on over six attempts per game, which was a significant jump over prior years. His foul shooting was also much-improved.

With his bag secured, Ingram will now go to work with fellow young star Zion Williamson as the Pelicans attempt to return to the playoffs. New Orleans has done some roster reshuffling, with Jrue Holiday going to the Milwaukee Bucks in a big trade. Eric Bledsoe and Steven Adams are now in place as starters.

Even with this roster movement, it's going to be a tall order to reach the playoffs in the loaded Western Conference, though having the play-in tournament could help. The Pelicans went 32-42 last season and finished 13th in the West, so Brandon Ingram and Co. will have to make a jump to reach the postseason.
