The New Orleans Pelicans announced on Friday that star forward Brandon Ingram has just undergone surgery on one of his fingers and he'll be on the shelf for 6-8 weeks.

That means Ingram will be ready to roll for training camp, which is certainly a good sign. It's not exactly known how he sustained the injury, but it's important to note Ingram did jam his pinkie and right ring finger in the Pelicans' first-round series with the Phoenix Suns. He ultimately played through it but NOLA ended up losing in six games.

Nevertheless, it was a very promising campaign for the former Laker. He averaged 22.7 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.6 assists while forming a solid partnership with CJ McCollum, who made a massive difference for this Pelicans squad once he arrived at the trade deadline from Portland.

Ingram looked even better in the postseason too, putting up 27 points, 6.2 boards, and 6.2 dimes per contest while shooting 40% from downtown. He dropped 30+ in three consecutive outings against Phoenix and was a huge reason they pushed the series longer than many expected.

With Zion Williamson expected to be back in 2021-22, there's no telling how good the Pelicans can be. With Ingram, Zion, McCollum, and some gritty youngsters like Jose Alvarado, Herb Jones, and Trey Murphy, the future is looking bright in the Big Easy.
