Throughout his NBA career, New Orleans Pelicans big man DeMarcus Cousins has been heavily criticized for his short temper, and even serving as a distraction to his teammates. However, that changed recently, as he showed a lot of maturity following their loss on Monday against the Orlando Magic.
Instead of focusing on what others failed to do during the game, he took responsibility by putting the blame on himself instead. He cited his lack of energy as a big reason why they lost on the night, and made it known that he remains positive that they can quickly turn around their fortunes.
“It's like one of those nights. Defensively, we just weren't there mentally. Let's just say (our) actions looked like a defeated team,” Cousins said. “I kind of take the blame for that. My energy was off last night, emotionally, and just being that energy the team was used to having–I wasn't there.
“We talked about it. We're aware of our mistakes and we'll have a better showing next game.”
The three-time All-Star still finished the game with a solid stat line of 12 points, 12 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and one block, however, it was a far cry from what he has been producing so far this season. He has been on a tear to start the year, and even is averaging career high numbers across the board with 29.4 points, 13.6 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.1 blocks in 37.3 minutes per game.
The Pelicans will be back in action on Wednesday when they take on the Dallas Mavericks, in what can be expected to be a game full of energy from Cousins.
