The New Orleans Pelicans are going to see a familiar face in Greivis Vasquez on the sidelines for their Summer League campaign this year.

The team's former starting point guard is apparently one of the Pelicans' assistant coaches in Summer League, per Fletcher Mackel of WDSU:

Vasquez teased Pelicans fans with his tweet, with some fans even thinking he was returning as a player.

Vasquez, drafted by the Memphis Grizzlies 28th overall in 2011, had his most productive years with the Pelicans. He played in New Orleans in the 2011-12 season and 2012-13 season. In his two seasons with the franchise, Vasquez averaged 11.6 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 7.4 assists, and shot a 43.2 percent clip from the field.

Following his tenure with New Orleans, Vasquez continued to be a servicable backup point for several other teams. He spent two seasons (from 2013 to 2015) as the reserve point guard for the Toronto Raptors. In 143 games with the Canadian-based franchise, Vasquez averaged 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.7 assists.

Vasquez, traded to the Milwaukee Bucks the following season, missed the majority of his 2015-16 campaign. He played just 23 games that year due to surgery to remove bone spurs and loose bodies from his right ankle, and this effectively ended his season.

Unfortunately, it also signaled the end of his basketball career in the NBA. He only played three games the following season before the Brooklyn Nets released him in early November 2016.

Now, Greivis Vasquez is back in the NBA in a coaching capacity. Certainly, this move of bringing back a fan favorite and testing his coaching out in the Summer League waters is a good move.
