The basketball world is itching to finally see New Orleans Pelicans' rookie sensation Zion Williamson take the floor. The 19-year-old has yet to make his highly-anticipated NBA debut, as he continues to recover from a knee injury that is expected to keep him out until at least mid-December. Nevertheless, for former NBA coach and current ESPN commentator Jeff Van Gundy, his faith in the tremendous talent of Williamson remains steadfast. So much so, that Van Gundy believes that the youngster is bound for a Hall of Fame level of greatness.

“With Williamson, he is going to be great,” said Van Gundy, via Landon Buford of Heavy.com. “I mean Hall of Fame-type great.”

Given Zion's elite level of talent, it's hard not to get on the same boat with Van Gundy here. However, some doubt has slowly been creeping in for some, who believe that Williamson's knee issue is not something that can be ignored. As a matter of fact, there are even a few who are saying that this injury might just have an adverse effect on the youngster's longevity in the league.

Another issue here is that we have seen relatively very little of Zion to completely determine that he will indeed become one of the greats. We haven't even seen him play a single minute of basketball at the NBA level. Nonetheless, this does not serve as a deterrent for Van Gundy, who strongly believes that what he's seen from Williamson in the preseason is more than enough to support his claim.

“That and what you saw at Duke. This guy is going to be a great player.” Van Gundy stated.

Van Gundy has coached some Hall of Famers himself in the form of Yao Ming, Tracy McGrady, and Patrick Ewing, so in this respect, the 57-year-old does know what he's talking about here.
