After missing the entire 2021-22 season due to injury, New Orleans Pelicans superstar Zion Williamson is making up for the lost time. The 22-year-old has been nothing short of amazing for the Pels to start the season, and it looks like this is only the beginning.

This is exactly what Pelicans head coach Willi Green had in mind when he sent out a bold warning to the rest of the NBA about what's ahead for Zion Williamson:

“He knows he can be even better,” Green said, via Melissa Rohlin of FOX Sports. “That's the scary part.”

Zion himself doubled down on his coach's statement. According to Williamson, he knows very well that he is capable of getting better, and that at this point, it's all about the mental aspect of the game:

“There's a lot of abilities that I have that I haven't showcased,” Williamson said. “There's abilities that I'll show when I'm practicing or playing one-on-one, [but] in a game, I'll be so in my head where I want to be this perfectionist or I'll want to feel that I can make every shot I take that I won't shoot my middy [midrange jumper] or I won't shoot my 3. I'm capable of doing all of that and more. It's just I gotta get out of this perfectionist mindset.”

Right now, Zion is averaging 22.7 points on 52.4 percent shooting, 6.9 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.1 steals in seven games played. At this point, it feels like the only thing that's holding back the Pelicans star is his health.

“If it's in God's plan for me not to play basketball, then it's in his plan,” Williamson said. “But if it is in his plan for me to play basketball, then I'm going to do it to the best of my abilities.”

There's never been a question about Zion's talent. There is no doubt that this young man is a generational talent. However, he has yet to prove that he can stay injury-free for extended periods. The Pelicans are hoping that this is the year that he does just that.
