The New Orleans Pelicans lost to the Dallas Mavericks 136-124 on Sunday, and Zion Williamson detailed his different role in the offense as Willie Green's team fell to 4-6 on the season.

“Last year, we had a team meeting and we brought up some things I can do better, especially with buying into the program,” Zion Williamson said, via Will Guillory of The Athletic. “Right now, it's tough. I'm taking a little bit of a backseat right now. I'm trusting the process. I'm trying my best to buy in right now.”

Williamson had an efficient game against the Mavericks, shooting 7-for-11 and scoring 18. Brandon Ingram led the way with 20 points.

It is interesting to hear that Williamson is taking a bit of a back seat in the offense. You would expect that it would be him and Brandon Ingram leading the way and taking most of the shots. However, first round rookie Jordan Hawkins shot more than Williamson tonight, taking 13 shots and making three of them, scoring 10 points.

Jordan Hawkins has impressed so far with the Pelicans, earning starting minutes, but it is surprising that he took more shots than Williamson against the Mavericks.

It will be interesting to see if Williamson continues to take a back seat in the offense, and how he will handle that. He seems to be trying to buy in right now, but that could be something that many question Willie Green on.

The Pelicans get another shot at the Mavericks on Tuesday at home in the In-Season tournament.
