A video on Twitter from a New Orleans Pelicans fan has made its rounds on the internet following the big news on Monday that Anthony Davis’ time with the franchise will soon come to an end.

The video, which begins with a lighter held above Anthony Davis’ jersey, finishes with a heartwarming note thanking A.D. for his contributions to the franchise and a unibrowed salute to the big man.

Not only was the video hilarious, but it was also a nice change of pace compared to other fan reactions to star players leaving their franchise. In the past, the league has seen fans of players like LeBron James, Kevin Durant and Kawhi Leonard met with anger and hatred for heading elsewhere, whether by free agency or trade.

The thanks are absolutely well deserved, too. Since arriving in 2012, Anthony Davis has played 451 games for New Orleans and will leave as second in franchise history for win shares with 70.8. In his six-and-a-half seasons with the team, he has put up career averages of 24.0 points, 10.6 rebounds, 2.1 assists 1.4 steals and 2.4 blocks.

The Pelicans haven’t had the amount of success that Davis, as well as the team, would have liked. However, in his time with the team, Davis did help bring two playoff appearances. One of those came in the 2017-18 when they upset the Portland Trail Blazers in a series sweep.

New Orleans has some tough calls to make in the near future in terms of what to do with Davis. It is still unclear where, or when, he will go, but it is pretty certain that he has spent his last season as a member of the Pelicans.
