The Penn State University Nittany Lions have announced that they have signed head coach James Franklin to a 10-year contract extension.

James Franklin has been the Penn State head coach since 2014. He was the head coach of the Vanderbilt Commodores from 2011-2013.

This was an interesting signing for the Nittany Lions. Many people believe that James Franklin was going to be fired after the season. He has a 67-32 record as the Nittany Lions head coach. The past two seasons have been an embarrassment for Penn State as they are 11-9 in those two years. Not only that, but they are also under .500 in the Big Ten the past two seasons. Penn State has not been living up to their standard and it's questionable why James Franklin is getting such a big extension.

He has also not found much success playing against Ohio State or the Michigan Wolverines as those are Penn State's two biggest rivals.

Penn State University has an elite signing class coming in next year. It would have made sense to extend James Franklin for a year or two and see what he can do with the new guys coming in. Signing him to a 10-year extension shows that the athletic office is not serious about getting them back to being National Title contenders.

They will take on the Michigan State Spartans on Saturday and try to improve to 8-4 on the season.
