Peru and Canada don’t have much of a history to build a prediction on, as they’ve faced off just twice in the last 14 years. Their last meeting came on July 20th, 2015, with Peru taking the 2-0 victory. Peru took the same margin of victory in their first meeting on September 4th, 2010. It’s a different era of Canadian soccer now, as the 2026 World Cup hosts have as good of a chance of advancing as any other teams in the group besides Argentina. It is time to continue our Copa America odds series with a Peru-Canada prediction, pick, and how-to-watch.

The tournament opener for Peru was important for both them and Chile. A Canada loss to Argentina was all but confirmed, so whoever got three points would have the inside track of advancing to the knockout stage. However, their scoreless draw has left the door open for Canada to get the second spot in the group.

Canada’s tournament started poorly with a 2-0 loss to Argentina, but the result was as encouraging as disappointing. Argentina is the defending Copa America and World Cup champions and is the top-ranked team in the world. Canada didn’t belong on the same field as the top-ranked teams in the past, so to enter the second half with a scoreless draw and lose just 2-0 is an encouraging sign. Canada’s knockout stage chances also grew with Peru’s draw against Chile.

Why Peru Will Win

Gianluca Lapadula led Peru’s lackluster attack in the tournament opener but couldn’t find the back of the net despite many chances. Chile dominated Peru in the first half, but Peru began to emerge in the second half.

It was no surprise that Peru’s offense struggled in the opening game, as they were in poor form leading up to the tournament. The feeling leading into that game was that both teams would try to outlast each other long enough to sneak out with a 1-0 victory. It didn’t happen, but the blueprint for Peru was there if they had managed to score. They’ll need to do the same against Canada, which won’t be as easy.

Why Canada Will Win

Canada’s chances of breaking through against Peru are much better than Chile’s in the last game. Chile has nowhere near the attacking power of Canada, and if Peru continues to struggle to finish their chances, Canada will make them pay.

Canada couldn’t find a goal against Argentina, but they had ten-shot attempts. Alphonso Davies contributed three shots, with none hitting the target. Jonathan David had a particularly disappointing game for the red and white. One of the top scorers from Ligue 1, David, had one shot at the net, which didn’t hit the target. You can expect him to have a bounceback effort in this matchup.

Final Peru-Canada Prediction & Pick

Peru’s chances of outscoring Canada in this matchup are slim to none. If Davies or David can go through early, Peru won’t have the attacking power to get back into the game. Peru will try to keep this game at a scoreless draw as long as possible like their match against Chile, but it won’t work.
