The end of the first half of last night's game was a comedy of errors for the officials. With three seconds left before the break, the BillsDan Carpenter lined up to kick a field goal when Richard Sherman jumped offside. The play was blown dead, but Carpenter continued his kicking motion while Sherman continued his attempt at a block.

Carpenter was flipped into the air when Sherman struck his plant leg. However, no personal foul was called.

Another error came when the officials called delay of game on Buffalo when a ref was lined up over the ball with five seconds to go on the play clock. Carpenter made the initial kick, but after the penalty, he missed the next one from 54 yards out.

The vice president of officiating, Dean Blandino, later asserted that Sherman should've been assessed a personal foul, and the play clock should've been reset. The former has received more coverage after the game.

Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll admitted that a flag should've been thrown against Sherman, but he also threw some shade at Carpenter for his theatrics. From 710 ESPN Seattle:

“He hams it up a little bit too, which makes it bad.” Carroll said Richard Sherman should have been called for unnecessary roughness, but added that the officials should have whistled the play dead.

Here's the play in question:

Not shown in the video is Carpenter rolling in agony on the ground, apparently injured, until the trainer arrived by his side. Upon seeing the trainer, Carpenter immediately got up and walked around like everything was fine.

The play was absolutely dangerous, but this is likely what Carroll was referring to.
